Mt. Shidango, located in the Yadoriki area of Matsuda, is a great spot with a parking lot right nearby—perfect for beginner hikers! From the parking lot, you cross the Nakatsu River and walk through a quiet residential area. It’s an uphill walk to the trailhead, but right now you can see beautiful tea plantations along the way. It’s a great chance to enjoy the rich, natural countryside scenery that makes Matsuda so special.

The trails on Mt. Shidango are very well-maintained. There are guide signboards here and there, and the slopes are mostly gentle until you get close to the top, making it a really pleasant hike. From the summit, you can see the surrounding mountains. At an elevation of 758 meters, you won't necessarily be looking down on everything around you, but the view really opens up near the top. There’s a stone monument and some benches, which is more than enough to sit back and feel a great sense of accomplishment.

It was a fantastic day-trip course—enjoying a light hike while being healed by Matsuda's nature. I’ve also shared the experience and the atmosphere of the trail in my vlog, so please be sure to check it out!
